CONCORD, N.H. – At its 104th Annual Dinner, Lifetime Achievement and New Hampshire Advantage Awards Celebration presented by Eversource, to be held Oct. 18 from 4:30 to 8:30 PM at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester, the Business and Industry Association will recognize and honor Girls Incorporated of New Hampshire with its 2017 New Hampshire Advantage Award presented by Eastern Bank.
For girls in our communities, every day brings new opportunities, challenges, and choices. The ability to respond with thoughtful, informed decisions at home, school, and with friends and peers can be a big step toward confident, healthy, and fulfilling careers and lives. At Girls Inc., they know every girl – regardless of her age, background, interests, or dreams – has the potential for greatness.
Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong (through healthy living), smart (through education), and bold (through independence). They’ve providing thousands of girls with life-changing experiences and solutions to the unique challenges girls face. The Girls Inc. experience consists of people, an environment, and programming that empower girls to succeed.
Trained staff and volunteers build lasting, mentoring relationships in girls-only spaces that are physically and emotionally safe and where girls find a sisterhood of support with shared drive, mutual respect, and high expectations. Hands-on, research-based programs provide girls with the skills and knowledge to set goals, overcome obstacles, and improve academic performance.
Major programs address math and science education, pregnancy and drug abuse prevention, media literacy, economic literacy, adolescent health, violence prevention, careers and leadership, and sports participation. Informed by girls and their families, Girls Inc. also works with policymakers to advocate for legislation and initiatives that increase opportunities for girls. At Girls Inc., girls grow up healthy, educated, and independent.
Past New Hampshire Advantage Award recipients include University of New Hampshire, New Hampshire Center for Public Policy Studies, New Hampshire Public Television, the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits, New Hampshire Humanities Council, New Hampshire Food Bank, Easter Seals New Hampshire, the 2-1-1 New Hampshire Partnership, New Hampshire Political Library and a core group of supporters who worked to prevent closure of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard under the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure process.
